Cambodia's Construction Industry Enters Explosive Growth Period

5-Year Infrastructure Dividend Continues to Unleash

(CAMBODIA) According to the latest data from global construction industry intelligence platforms, Cambodia's construction industry is embracing its strongest growth cycle in nearly a decade. Basic statistics for 2024-2025 show a clear upward trend: 414 newly registered construction-related investment projects were recorded in 2024 with a total investment of about $6.9 billion; in 2025, the number of projects rose to 630, with total investment exceeding $10 billion, representing a 52% year-on-year increase in project count and a 45% year-on-year rise in total investment, with foreign capital participation continuing to climb.

In 2026, the growth rate of Cambodia's construction industry is expected to reach ‌6.6%.‌ Driven by dual forces of government-led public projects and private sector investment, the industry prosperity has risen to its highest level in recent years. From 2027 to 2030, the average annual growth rate of the industry will further climb to ‌8.2%‌, covering multiple scenarios including urban renewal, road and bridge construction, real estate development, and industrial park upgrading, continuously releasing the growth potential of the infrastructure market in southern Southeast Asia.

Three major ongoing and planned core projects currently form the core support for industry growth:

Techo Funan Comprehensive Water Conservancy Project‌

As a national flagship project, the project integrates irrigation, flood control and shipping functions. After completion, it will greatly enhance the agricultural production and inland water transport capacity along the Mekong River. It is the benchmark project with the largest investment scale and the most extensive industrial chain driving effect among the 23 key inland water transport and logistics projects.

‌National Multimodal Transport Logistics Network Project‌

With a total investment of about $3.3 billion, the project will promote 23 inland port, channel upgrading and logistics hub projects in phases. 16 short and medium-term projects will be completed before 2027, fully opening up inland freight channels and strengthening the level of trade interconnection between Cambodia and neighboring countries.

‌Clean Energy Infrastructure Upgrading Project‌

Advanced in accordance with the Electricity Development Master Plan 2022-2040, the project focuses on implementing a number of hydropower, solar and wind power plant projects, aiming to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the power structure from the current 59.2% to 70% by 2030. The construction of related projects will continuously drive market demand for building materials and engineering equipment.

With the continuous implementation of Cambodia's Public-Private Partnership Law, it is expected that there will still a funding gap of nearly $30 billion in the infrastructure sector by 2040, and the market demand for highly adaptable building materials and engineering equipment from foreign sources will remain high in the long run. The upcoming Cambodia CAMBUILD Construction Building Materials Exhibition to be held from September 28 to 30 will also become a core professional platform for global enterprises to connect local procurement demands and enter the Mekong sub-region market.
